Hitting our target?
We’re making progress, but is it enough to meet our energy-reduction targets?
Our Big Energy Challenge aims to cut energy use by 10% - some 18,081 MWh/year.
So far, the savings already made add up to 700MWh/year. This includes adjustments to the IT facility coolers at Bath Spa University, new lighting at Guildhall and high-tech air-handling controls in the Univeristy of Bath’s swimming pools. It’s a step in the right direction, but some distance short of our target.
However, Our Big Energy Challenge has identified massive potential savings: at the Royal United Hospital (10,868 MWh/year) and at St Martin’s Hospital (1,500 MWh/year). Further energy-saving measures are ready to be installed - but are still awaiting approval - at a range of other sites (450 MWh/year).
Our challenge now is to move these projects forward.
If we can do that – and we have another 12 months of the project to go - we’ll be well on our way to achieving the 10% energy use reduction target announced at the launch of the project in 2006.
