Becoming more energy aware

Our Big Energy Challenge has a high-tech side. State-of-the-art monitoring equipment has been finding out which buildings in Bath can be made more energy efficient, and energy saving measures – such as smarter lighting and more sophisticated heating controls – are being installed.

But technology alone isn’t the answer

We also need your help. We are asking all staff to become more energy aware and take simple actions like switching off lights and not leaving office equipment running overnight. The small changes made by you can add up to great deal.

The project is about being efficient, being comfortable and spending our money more wisely.

Challenge 1

Some appliances like phone chargers continue to consume electricity when not in use. Switch off at the socket!

Switch mobile phone chargers off at the socket. Unless you do this, your charger will continue to work even when it’s not actually charging up a phone. You can tell it’s using electricity because it’ll be warm. Across the UK, mobile phone chargers left plugged in waste electricity worth over £60 million.
