What we want to achieve

Our Big Energy Challenge aims to cut the energy use of the organisations in Bath taking part in the project by 10% after three years. This will save up to £3.5m over six years.

We can’t continue to consume electricity, oil and gas as if there’s no tomorrow.

As it is, the organisations that are participating in Our Big Energy Challenge spend a lot on energy – over £4.5m in 2005. And some are facing increases in their energy bills of up to 50%.

Challenge 1

Some appliances like phone chargers continue to consume electricity when not in use. Switch off at the socket!

Switch mobile phone chargers off at the socket. Unless you do this, your charger will continue to work even when it’s not actually charging up a phone. You can tell it’s using electricity because it’ll be warm. Across the UK, mobile phone chargers left plugged in waste electricity worth over £60 million.
