Clean energy
The burning of oil, gas and coal - either for heating or the generation of electricity – contributes to climate change by releasing carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere.
But there are other types of energy generation that don’t emit CO2.
These include wind, solar and hydro-electric power. Collectively, these kinds of technologies are known as renewable energy as they depend on a resource (the sun, wind etc) that won’t eventually run out – unlike, oil, coal and gas.
Nuclear power also provides low-carbon energy, but it’s not clear how low this is.
